Olympic gold medalist Helen Maroulis added another impressive achievement to her already decorated career…
By winning gold in the lightweight blue belt division at the IBJJF No-Gi World Championship!
Maroulis defeated Seika Van Keuren in the finals – but was not just content with winning her division.
She also entered the open weight class!

Maroulis, the former collegiate wrestler, has represented the United States in the last three Olympic Games.
She won gold in 2016 by pulling off a historic upset against Saori Yoshida, a three-time consecutive Olympic champion.
She followed that triumph with bronze medals in the 2020 and 2024 Games, ultimately solidifying her status as one of the most accomplished wrestlers in history.
Maroulis also previously addressed some of the “haters” who were criticizing her for entering the blue belt division:
I started Jiu-Jitsu exactly 5 weeks ago, never done it before…
I know I don’t have any ego, I know I don’t have like any pretentiousness and I really care about everything that I am learning.
And I care about the (BJJ) culture.

Sloth Jiu-Jitsu: you can be slow and unathletic and still kick butt in Jiu-Jitsu.
