Day one of ADCC 2017 is behind us. Among the biggest surprises were eliminations of Leandro Lo, Mackenzie Dern and Murillo Santana.
The superfight crowned the end of day 1 – it ended with a staggering 14-0 for Galvao. Much of the superfight was stand up. Calasans attempted several osoto garis yet no dice. Galvao overall strategized much better and scored the bulk of his points taking the back and inserting and retracting hook #2.
Elsewhere Garry Tonon got even with Marcelo Mafra and scored a tight victory – Mafra had one penalty more.

AJ Agazarm had it very tight against Ethan Crelinsten who at one point put on a triangle and tried to get an armbar however Agazarm toughed it out and escaped ultimately securing a victory.
The outstanding Australian who got Leandro Lo to tap, got another victory under his belt. Craig Jones managed to close a flying triangle on Murilo Santana.
One other impressive performance was Gordon Ryan in his 2nd fight – he managed to get a tap from Romulo Barral after taking the back and securing the rear naked choke.
Keenan Cornelius secured a quick victory with a sub over Kaynan Duarte with an outside heel hook.
In addition to these submissions Xande Ribeiro’s armbar over Rustam Chsiev was also quite exciting.
Over in the women’s division there were many heated exchanges and it was quite something to watch matches as intense as Bia Basilio v Talita Alencar and Karpinen’s victory over Dern. In the over 60 division Gabi Garcia dominated round one with a savage toe hold that left Amanda Alequin hopping on the mat.
