What is The Difference in Skill Between a White-Blue Belt & Brown-Black Belt in BJJ?

Have you ever wondered what is the difference in skill gap between a white and a blue belt in BJJ? Certainly many people who train BJJ have thought about it.

Receiving a blue belt is an amazing experience because such a distinction is proof of having certain skills, unlike the white belt, when the practitioner is just learning to navigate the world of jiu-jitsu. Typically it usually takes a year, two or three when a BJJ practitioner is distinguished with this coveted belt. So why is this transition period seen as a huge change?

Chewjitsu aka Nick Albin explains in his latest video on his latest YT video why this is so.

He compares this change to the one in which a person cannot speak a given language, and in some times, is not even able to communicate. The same applies to the transition from brown to black belt BJJ.

However, in this case, the change is more subtle. Then the holder of the brown belt has a defined game that only requires polishing.
