Werdum Pinged By USADA – Likely Won’t Be On UFC Moscow Card After All

Fabricio Werdum has been a powerhouse in mma for a number of years. The 40 year old Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt has been flagged after an out of competition sample collected in the past month.

Official UFC press release reads:

The UFC organization was notified today that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has informed Fabricio Werdum of a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation stemming from an out-of-competition sample collected on April 25, 2018.

USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case involving Werdum. Under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, there is a full and fair legal process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed. Additional information will be provided at the appropriate time as the process moves forward.

Werdum has been previously critical of USADA saying at one point testing was stricter than Olympics:

“I think it could be better. There are things that you could take that wouldn’t affect your performance, but you would recover faster. We train too hard.”

Prior to the news Werdum was in talks for UFC Moscow where he was expected to face Aleksei Oleinik.

Werdum released a statement online saying:

“Hey guys, I got up this morning to the news that one of my urine samples from April tested positive for a prohibited substance. I am working with my team, the UFC and USADA to understand what happened. I’ve always been careful with everything I take and I’ve always supported a clean sport. We will work hard to solve this misunderstanding and I hope soon to be able to go back to the octagon and do what I love”

➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ Hey guys, I got up this morning to the news that one of my urine samples from April tested positive for a prohibited substance.
