The brown belt absolute division at the 2025 IBJJF Pan Championship featured a showdown between two of the sport’s fastest-rising teenage stars: Sarah Galvao and Helena Crevar.
Although they usually dominate different weight classes, fate put them on a collision course in the open weight bracket.
Crevar opened her absolute campaign with a victory over Maria Loreiro.
Galvao, receiving a first-round bye, stepped onto the mat for the first time in the quarterfinal – directly opposite Crevar.
What followed was a display of tactical pressure passing from Galvao, who channeled the signature stack pass game popularized by her father, André Galvao.
She earned her first points early with a clean pass and kept Crevar under control for most of the match, adding another late pass to secure a 6-0 win.
Crevar was shut out on the scoreboard and eliminated from the bracket, while Galvao advanced to the semifinals.
Her run ended there, though, as she lost to Luane Correia in a hard-fought match, ultimately earning a bronze in the absolute division to go along with her lightweight gold.
