UFC exec: Conclusions on Alleged Fabricio Werdum Assault of Colby Covington Premature

Werdum is riding on the heels of his decision victory over Tybura however perhaps a bigger question is how will the famed Brazilian deal with the pending charges for that boomerang incident with Colby Covington.

Still Werdum has the backing of at least a part of the UFC. An exec was quoted saying:

“From a company standpoint, we’re still collecting as much information as we can,” Shaw said in a press conference at Qudos Bank Arena following UFC Fight Night 121. “We’ve spoken to Werdum and his team. We spoke to Covington. We spoke to the hotel security. We spoke to police.

“So we are not at a point to make any conclusions yet. It’s just too early. There’s still a process that we need to go through. And, listen, at this point, it’s in the hands of the New South Wales Police. I think Werdum is going to have some conversations in the next few weeks at least with them.”

According to Australia’s Nine News network, Werdum, 40, has been charged with common assault. This is not confirmed for now.

Werdum previously clarified on the incident:

“This guy is really audacious,” Werdum told FloCombat. “I went down with my master [Rafael Cordeiro]: ‘Master, let’s get a haircut and shave the beard.’ We were in the lobby, and I’ve never seen this guy before. When I walked he looked at me and said: ‘Brazilian animals.’ And I was like: ‘Hey.’ I slapped his phone and asked, ‘What did you say?’ Then, he kicked my leg, but I managed to defend. Then the guys got in the middle and had nothing left. But he kicked me, he is audacious. I could have hurt myself.

“I don’t know why he insists on this mistake of speaking of the Brazilians… I didn’t understand. […] He wants media, wants to imitate Conor McGregor. He looks like ridiculous the way he does. I didn’t believe when he said it. I didn’t believe it. I slapped his phone and he stepped back and kicked me. Then we were arguing, and he kept shouting that Brazilians were animals.

“If I had hit him in the face, he would be in the hospital. Certainly. There was no punch, he’s crazy.”
