UAEJJF Canceling Absolute Divisions for 2016-2017

The United Arab Emirates Jiu Jitsu Federation (UAEJJF) is one of the most influential organizations around in brazilian jiu-jitsu and they’ve just decided that they want to respond to the latest round of criticism and introduce a new limitation.

The directive limits the ultra-heavyweights divisions to 110kg for males and 90kg for females because they feel that the lack of limitations upto this point significantly contribute to the amount of injuries to the smaller competitors particularly in absolute divisions.

Many disagree with this line of reasoning because it brings out the notion of sizeism and is a tad discriminatory toward smaller competitors because many have taken pride in overcoming significantly larger opponents.

The weight limit is not the only rule to be implemented in the upcoming season. The UAEJJF also decided to eliminate the absolute division in UAEJJF circuit tournaments.

BJJHeroes inquired as to the information regarding absolute division on the UAEJJF website but it can still be seen on Grand Slam tournament pages.
