Tye Ruotolo Shares Why BJJ Is More Complex Than Boxing: “There’s, Like, Thousands Of Techniques”

Boxing is a wonderful martial art. The “sweet science” is an incredibly complex sport, strengthening both the mind and body through rigorous training.

But is it “better” than Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
Well, according to Tye Ruotolo, it’s less complex than the sport he’s excelled at.

Here’s what Tye had to say about the topic in a recent interview with the MMA Superfan:

That’s the coolest thing about Jiu-Jitsu. In boxing, in Muay Thai, there’s only so many combos, you know?

In Jiu-Jitsu, there’s, like, thousands of techniques. There’s more and more getting created every day.

So, what is Jiu-Jitsu about for Tye Ruotolo? It’s both about showing respect and “going for the kill”:

That’s my main goal, to be exciting and respectful at the same time.

And that’s what Jiu-Jitsu is all about; it’s showing respect to your opponent and going for the kill. So that’s what I wanted to represent [in his previous fight].

I want to represent Jiu-Jitsu in the highest form possible. And yeah, I like to think we [him and his brother, Kade] are doing a good job and keep it going.

He is excited about the upcoming match against Reinier de Ridder:

The true essence of Jiu-Jitsu is being able to beat the bigger guy no matter what, with pure technique.
And I’ve seen Reinier de Ridder say that he’s gonna sub anyone in the world. I definitely want to test that.

He’s a bit taller, but I think can definitely sub him. Let’s do it.
