Two Effective Single Leg Takedowns by Giancarlo Bodoni & Bernardo Faria

As we all know, the single leg is one of the most basic and high percentage takedowns in jiu jitsu. Whether youʼre standing on the ground, you need to incorporate the single leg takedown into your game – but just as importantly, you need to know how to DEFEND it as well.

In this video, BJJ brown belt and No Gi world champion Giancarlo Bodoni who is an instructor at Bernardo Faria’s academy in Massachusetts explains the basic principles of the single leg takedown defense in the Gi.

Giancarlo sets it up from a modified Russian tie 2 on 1 control. When the opponent defends by trying to pull out his arm, Giancarlo uses the opportunity to snatch a leg. From there he has a really smart way to the opponent down using the action-reaction principle.
