Slam is the first technique in the IBJJF guideline that’s forbidden on all levels. The most catastrophic injuries in the sport do not come from submission holds – they come from falling body weight landing in an unsafe fashion. The forces created by the weight of your entire body falling at speed into the floor are far, far greater than even the best applied submission hold.

Still plenty of competitions allow it including the prestigious ADCC.
But some situations are murky. Such is the instance of the Elite submission League fight posted on instagram today.

While the alleged slammer got disqualified this probably has no merrit. If you observe the gif above you can see plenty of details that would make you question this call.
