This Xande Sweep to Armbar Setup Is SIMPLE And Works Like MAGIC!

Most of the techniques in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu don’t have to be complicated in order to work. What’s more, if you truly want to become an excellent Jiujiteiro, you should be focused on becoming a master of basics first. But that doesn’t mean just knowing how to do a basic technique or two. Instead, it means knowing how to tie in these techniques together and making them work in unison!
Such is the case with this Xande Sweep to Armbar setup. Rafael Lovato Sr. demonstrates and explains.

XANDE SWEEP TO ARMBAR DETAILS

The setup for the Xande Sweep starts from Closed Guard. From here, you’ll grab the training partner’s sleeve on the side you want to shift them towards, and grab their pants on the opposite side. Then, you’ll do a “rock ‘n roll” movement to shift the partner’s bodyweight onto the blocked arm’s side.
This will force them to post with their other arm.

From here, Rafael Lovato Sr. explains that you need to cross your shin over the training partner’s back while, simultaneously, reaching over their posted arm with your hand.
Pay attention to how Lovato Sr. keeps his grip on the other arm as well, and to how he posts on his forehead.

Now, you’ll push on the training partner’s neck and roll; ending up in a “classic” Armbar position. From here, all that you have to do is cross your leg over their head, pinching their shoulder now with both legs – hyperextend, drive your hips up, and finish the Armbar!
