Jiu Jitsu Brotherhood’s Nic Gregoriades has a new favorite way to pass. Something he refers to as the Mermaid Pass.
The Mermaid guard pass is something he’s been favoring over the last two years. Gregoriades acknowledges it’s really frustrating to play against a strong long legged guard player – this is just why he resorted to the mermaid guard pass.
This is Gregoriades’ go-to option. He was taught this pass by his main training partner in England (2nd degree blackbelt). This is a pass that managed to slice through Gregoriades’ defenses multiple times in spite of the man in question being vastly smaller .
So why is it called the Mermaid pass? It’s quite simple. The leading principle is tying up the legs – so much so that they remind of a mermaid tail.
