Tapping, the Sacred Ritual In All Of BJJ – And An Opponent Who Won’t Let Go

 

 

Tapping is an acknowledgement of opponent’s skill but even more so it’s an acknowledgment of reaching your own limits. Every beginner gets warned at one point or another that they should tap, often well before they feel the excruciating pain.

This is why comedic martial arts series “Master Ken” even has a special webisode attached to it.

 

Master Ken might have a point, sequence of opponent tapping and the other side letting go is almost behavioral conditioning in the world of bjj.

But sadly this isn’t an universal rule as evidenced by the footage below. This gentleman tapped plenty of times but his opponent showed complete disregard for his partner’s wellbeing.

 

 

 

How would you penalize this? Does the guy deserve to be banished from the gym?
