Submission Underground Results

While Metamoris was all the rage in LA, over in Portland, Oregon Submission Underground event made it into the world.

Cheal Sonnen launched the even with a fairly stacked card that featured loads of talent from different background. The whole event was EBI rule set but set in a cage so it’s no surprise former UFCer Vinny Magalhaes dealt with this better than most.

Vinny Magalhaes‘ initial fight was a no go since Muhammed Lawal was out of commission due to a neck injury. Ronny Markes stepped up and took the fight on short notice. In the End, Magalhaes caught a heel hook and forced Markes to tap.

The card also included former UFC heavyweight champion and 1997 ADCC champion Ricco Rodriguez facing 3rd degree BJJ black belt Fabiano Scherner.  Fabiano Scherner managed to defeat Ricco Rodriguez via armbar, albeit in first overtime.

Jake Shields managed to defeat Chris Lytle but Lytle remains submission free- Shields won via ride time.

Josh Calvao defeated Filipe Braga Costa (who recently made some noise due to Kenny Florian pulling out from this bout) via armbar in the 7th minute of the fight just starting.

Alex Canders rained another hell hook on his opponent, Stephan Abas.

And frequent EBI competitor, Nathan Orchard defeated Guilherme de Vasconcelos Juliao via rear naked choke in the third overtime.

Submission Underground will be available to stream on flocombat later today.
