Saulo Ribeiro Hides Injury To Win 5th World Master Title, More Results

Saulo Ribeiro was always considered a legend with plenty of heart. He proved that once more yesterday!

The Royler Gracie black belt and prestigious competitor had the bad luck to contract a tear in his bicep tendon in the Master 3 division heavyweight semifinal.

But in spite of all the pain he chose not to disclose the injury to his team and went on to fight in the finals.

With a nice takedown Saulo stepped one step closer to defeating Cristiano Lazzarini and left the mat emotional. He went on to win the division. This is his 5th World Master title.

I dedicate this WAR to the ANGEL on my shoulder, my DAD, a man that thought me how to live with dignity and face adversity with my head up. The body is hurt but the soul is in PEACE.” – Saulo writes

Elsewhere the ‘The Prince of Jiu-Jitsu’  wanted to get back on the competition mats to commemorate the 10th year anniversary of his father’s passing. You can watch some of his competition footage here:

Carlson Gracie Jr Makes Winning Return To Competition After 18 Year Break

“I did very well in the first fight; I managed to deploy my game well. In the second I was matched with a very tough guy who managed to stifle my guard. But I’m very happy. I made a promise that I was gonna fight; I trained, prepared myself, and there’s no sob story to tell. I hope now I can return to competition,” Carlson told IBJJF’s Facebook page.

He also wrote :

“Hello Everyone,

What an amazing day! Words can not express the emotions I am feeling right now. After 18 years without stepping on the competition mats, today I made my return. Happy doesn’t describe it fairly. Emotional is not enough and excited falls short as well. I really have no way to describe this feeling. More so than the thrill of competition again, is the joy I got from stepping on the mats with all of you today. Today I was not a spectator or a coach, but I joined all of you in the battle and it was truly one of the most amazing experiences of my life. The emotions of hearing the support of the crowd was unbelievable and I truly feel that a thank you is not enough to express what all of you have done for me, and more important, what all of you have done for the Carlson Gracie Team.

Everyday I see what this team can become. Everyday I see more and more of the Champion Factory coming back to life. Everyday I believe more and more that if we continue with our goal, we can once again achieve our goals and become a force once again. The job is still unfinished, but I know again what it feels like t fight for those goals and dreams, and I know we can do it.

Thank you again for all the love and support today. Thank you for the continued support of the vision my father left for us. That JiuJitsu was for all of us! That rich or poor, big or small, we could all find a home and place to fight for with JiuJitsu and with the Carson Gracie Team! One more day left in the battle! Lets give it our everything for one more day. Competitors, coaches, family, and friends lets go get what we all came for!
