Through the years there have been some staggeringly fast promotions in bjj. For a while it was quite a trend to see MMA fighters promoted to certain Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ranking in spite of never having practiced in the gi.

Within FIVE Classes Flores earned his purple belt under Fabio Santos (who cornered Royce Gracie at UFC1):
