Roger Gracie And Buchecha Square Off To a Submission Victory at Gracie Pro

Metamoris had it’s ups and downs but one definitive upside was a really cool match they put together – the one between GOAT Roger Gracie and a fierce modern age king of absolute Buchecha.

Now, several years later the two have squared off once again in Rio De Janeiro under the Patronage of Kyra Gracie.

The two 10x World champions were laser sharp from the very start. Roger Gracie was cornered by Renzo Gracie, Rillion and Ralph Gracie.

The crowd was electrified as the match started. The two were none too eager to pull guard and repeatedly fought for grips. Given the length of match both tried to pace themselves.

Buchecha had a bit lower stance and tried for a single leg right off the bat. However no dice – Roger slipped without any trouble.

The two went head to head as the 3 minute mark approached. Roger Gracie kept on trying for a cross collar grip. Both corners called for penalties for inactivity – and they were obliged.

Roger went on to defend another fierce single leg. Buchecha went all out but good defense was enough to sidetrack his attempt and the match was reset in the center of the mat.

Buchecha came in with a hefty weight advantage weighing in at 240 lbs as opposed to Roger Gracie’s 215.

Action on the ground was non-existant in the first 5 minutes.  Buchecha had repeatedly tried for a single leg however he was going for them on the very edge of the mat and as such he was unable to close in these first minutes.

The mat was 10m x 10m – yet they managed to run out of bounds several times.

Roger pulled guard eventually coming into closed guard.

Gracie quickly snatched a sweep and from there initially tried to take the back however due to a higher position he opted to try to sink in a collar choke – and promptly succeeded ending a match at the 7 minute mark via Submission choke from the back.

Gracie promptly announced his retirement and said this was the best way to close his career and announce his retirement.
