Rickson’s Daughter Reveals How BJJ Helped Her Cope With Trauma, Talks Running an Academy with Sister

Rickson Gracie is perhaps the biggest legend of the Gracie family. While we often hear about Kron we’ve seldom heard from his two daughters.

This led to an extensive interview Kauan and Kaulin gave.

On how long they’ve been training:
“This has been a return to jiu jitsu for me so this totally amazing for me I’m actually coming back to jiu jitsu as an adult. And i’m a dance major so I have a really nice understanding of body so now I’m going for it like a chess game and feeling the connection.”

The two are running the academy Gracie North  located in Washington state near Yakima Indian reservation.

Interestingly they both appear to be blue belts:

Kaulin revealed her return to jiu jitsu was facilitated after a stillbirth trauma at brother Kron’s urging. She was living with him at the time:

“I’ve always like kind of trained.. And Kron’s like come to the academy. So I come to the academy that day. I’d lost a lot of my hair and we start doing the warm up and I’m doing this warm up the movements and I literally crash into the back wall. I was so gassed, I was so embarrassed I was so emotional but it was the first time in 6 months since what had happened and I didn’t think about what had happened and I wasn’t stressed. I became addicted to it. I started training a lot with my brother who made fun of me : Oh Kaulin, she’s become a professional athlete. She’s doing two a day…”

“The big strength of our school is that it’s me and my sister and now the men are acknowledging it in a big way. It was a little bit different because I like to be on the mats a lot, the physical aspect of it… “
