Renzo Gracie wants to celebrate the landmark 50th birthday in style. March 11th 2017 will mark Renzo’s 50th, and he’d like it to be a fists blazing event.
He hasn’t been active in MMA since 2010 knock out he suffered by the hands of Matt Hughes however the veteran still has a contract with the UFC so a come back might not be so far off.
He recently talked to AG Fighting when he was in Las Vegas and made his intentions known:
” I just lost 12kg, I’m training a lot with this whole slew of kids and I’m willing to go out in a new fight. I can’t stand still. I’m 49 years old and I still have a contract with the UFC. My will is to fight at the end of this year or early next year. I want to celebrate my 50 years beating or taking down” -Renzo said
Renzo currently holds a 7th degree black belt in jiu-jitsu and he’s been active in MMA since 1992. His professional record stands at 13 wins, 7 losses and a single draw.
Some time ago he posted something he’s said before:
May life now and then bring to my lips the sweet taste of my own blood… So I will know that I really lived… Not just existed.”

Bad boy of bjj is nothing if not temperamental but his good heart and his never-ending legacy make him both loved and feared. For Renzo, anything less than a submission is unsatisfactory. It’s no secret that Renzo is also an amazing coach. His students include John Danaher, Matt Serra and Gunnar Nelson, to name a few.
