Rener Gracie Shows What Woman Who Got Attacked in Apartment Gym Could Have Done To Defend Herself

A woman was able to successfully fight off an attacker in a gym at her apartment complex last week and the footage of terrifying incident went viral.

Suspect Xavier Thomas-Jones, 25, attacked Nashali Alma as she worked out alone at the complex in Tampa, Florida. He wrestled her to the ground where he was able to pin her down.

The 24-year-old woman struggled vigorously and was able to escape the attacker’s clutches. She punched him repeatedly and even managed to get him in a chokehold at one point, before dodging his attempts to grab her again by ducking behind gym equipment while simultaneously dialing 9-1-1.

BJJ black belt Rener Gracie shows in this video what she could have done to be able to escape this horrifying situation.

She agreed to start training Jiu-Jitsu as a result of this situation:

Deborah Gracie is one of only two female Gracie Family members to have achieved her black belt. This is an excerpt from her newest instructional Self Defense for Women available exclusively from BJJ Fanatics.
