Rener Gracie Goes Full Jiu-Jitsu Mode on a 280-Pound Python

BJJ black belt Rener Gracie recently had an interesting grappling opponent: a 280lbs Python. When Rener started grappling with the large snake, he felt the full force of it’s squeezing power.

Rener was able to apply some of what he calls the 32 principles of Jiu-Jitsu to stay safe and avoid getting constricted by the Python.

Pythons are not only the largest snakes in the world, they are also formidable grapplers.

Pythons have to maneuver to kill and they use the body triangle. They have a deadly choke.Pythons use their sharp, backward-curving teeth, four rows in the upper jaw, two in the lower, to grasp prey which is then killed by constriction; after an animal has been grasped to restrain it, the python quickly wraps a number of coils around it. Death occurs primarily by cardiac arrest

Strengths: Despite their enormous size, Pythons are sleek and stealthy, coupled with their glistening skin, makes them very charismatic. Their jaws are attached by stretchy ligaments that enable these fierce creatures to swallow animals even wider than themselves. After such a large meal, they can go weeks or months without food.
