Before I landed any sponsors at all, I was still competing full-time. I would work to nickel and dime my way into IBJJF competitions. I always had to constantly worry about how I was going to pay for my travel, registration, and even food. There have even been many competitions I ATE NOTHING AT ALL FOR 2-3 DAYS JUST TO MAKE IT THERE AND BACK!

There are areas where on one side of the highway you have Hilton Hotels, shops, and malls while on the other side of the same highway you will see plywood shacks with dirt floors! This is a very sad, but inspirational experience.
QUICK STORY FROM DENNIS PRESSEY JR, Co-Founder of Dream Killer.
I had the awesome opportunity to visit Sao Paulo Brazil in mid 2011. I had not done much charity work in my life up until that point.
I was invited to train at a small little elementary school in the favelas. It was well after school hours which seemed odd, but we walked in. Down a small hall way into a tiny matted room PACKED WITH KIDS TRAINING JIU JITSU! They had a program that afforded them just enough money, time, and volunteers to teach these kids the gentle art absolutely free. The energy, and smiles in the room were incredible. These kids lived in some of the poorest conditions imaginable, but you would never know it sitting in that room!
I left that room inspired like never before. Giving has become a normal part of my life ever since.
Is that inspiring or what? Some of these kids even got to travel to the Pyramid in California to compete in the World Championships that year! This is what jiu jitsu is really about, and we all know of the countless stories of jiu jitsu changing lives from people in our own gyms. Together we can make an impact, whether small or large.
