Olympic Wrestling Champion Gable Steveson On Why He Didn’t Meet Dana White In Vegas

Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Gable Stevenson and UFC president Dana White were supposed to meet to discuss a potential collboration, but in the end it didn’t happen.
In an interview with MMA Hour, the 21-year-old Wrestling champion explained why the reunion never happened:

“When I arrived in Las Vegas, I was busy all day long. So I didn’t have time to reach out or do anything.”

Steveson has made it clear that he won’t go after the UFC to sign him, but if White wants to sign him, the organization will have to chase him.

“He won’t come to me like that, so like I said, I’ll wait my turn,” Steveson said. “Dana, you have my phone number. You have my Instagram. I don’t run towards people. I do my job. Fight. I won the championship. I went to university. I wore it for the United States. I don’t need to go anywhere. ”

He added:

“What is next for Gable Steveson is, I’m really not sure. I’m open for all options. There’s a lot of places to go, I don’t know what’s next for me. WWE, UFC, football, go back to school, who knows? But at the end of the day, the best decision will come to my family and who knows when it may came.” “Who wouldn’t want to be the baddest man on the planet? Who wouldn’t want to hold that UFC championship belt? I’m holding the gold medal and I’m the baddest wrestler on the planet. Why wouldn’t I want to go out there and be the baddest UFC heavyweight champion?”

“I do believe that with my wrestling skills and me putting on some striking skills, I can be the champion in less than 18 months. I can go out there and dominate my way through the heavyweight field.” “Most definitely I’m going to explore the WWE. For me not to explore WWE would be fairly stupid on my part. Me and Dave and my family, we’re going to go search for the right things and we’re going to make sure everything’s taken care of. A lot of people have faith in me and that’s cool to see. We’re going to explore. We’re going to take our time. We’re going to pick the right option for me whether it’s MMA or anything else.”

Stevenson’s stock has risen since he won gold at Tokyo. The young wrestler is interested in careers at either Bellator, WWE or UFC.
Steveson has yet to make a final decision on which organization he will choose. So far, he has met WWE boss Vince McMahon during the Summer Grand Slam.
