Nogi Worlds Results: Gordon Ryan Takes Double Gold, Cyborg Gets DQed

Nogi Worlds just concluded. The competition that was once the pinnacle of non ADCC world managed to attract enough attention thanks to the attitude of Gordon Ryan and the tenacity of several Brazilians to not let him!

Of course both division and absolute were won by Ryan.
In absolute finals Ryan managed to win by 1 advantage proving he’s successfully conquered the IBJJF points system. Simoes came out very aggressive, pushing Ryan to pull guard – Ryan reportedly had an injured neck and mostly wasn’t down to wrestle.

I will not be doubted. I will not be beaten. The last time I competed at no gi worlds I was a brown belt and I won. This is my 1st try at black belt and I won my weight and open weight. I’m happy but not satisfied with 4-8 wins by submission. I absolutely HATE to win by anything other than submission at this point in my career but it is what it is. Thank you to all the legends for the tough matches this weekend. Yuri, cyborg, Jackson, and gaudio are all household names in this sport and I’m honored to share the mats with them. I really hope you guys enjoyed the matches. I am truly trying to turn bjj into an spectator sport although there was a bit of butt scooting this weekend (I had a hurt neck so didnt want to wrestle). A big thanks to my team and my family. A lot of people thank their coaches because its what they feel they should do. But I’m not exaggerating when I say 95% of the things I do come from @danaherjohn. This guy completely changed my outlook on the sport when I was just a poor 17 year old boy. He has invested countless hours he didnt have to in me just to see me succeed. I have the best team in the world and will continue to prove that on the mats. Shout to my sponsors as well. I had a really cool rash guard to wear with all of you on it but the ibjjf stifled me because it had some grey on it. @hypnotik @musclepharm @ouchmedical @kimerakoffee @studio540 @_stakeyourclaim @athleteplus @kimurasoapco photo by @banejitsu also thanks to @ibjjf for running such a professional event and @flograppling for getting full coverage of the gordon ryan show.

In the ultra heavy finals Ryan bested Cyborg – or more like McGregored Cyborg. Cyborg was reportedly quite busy talking to Gordon trying to stall and slapping him half heartedly.

“Had my 1st combat jiu jitsu debut today. Cyborg dq on stalling and forearm strikes to the head. Yuri for absolute finals next.”

2018 Black Belt Adult Medium-Heavy Nogi World Champion. Three years in a row I clawed my way to the top of this podium. It’s a dream come true. I’m honored to be in the company of these other savage gentlemen. It was an uphill battle every step of the way. My body is busted up. I almost withdrew from the tournament after I popped my knee two weeks ago in my match with @lovatojrbjj. But I couldn’t bear the thought of quitting. I came here ready to leave on crutches. It’s been a horrible competition year for me. I lost a lot. But I wasn’t gonna quit. I came here to do my best. That’s all we can ever do. Just show up and do your best one match at a time and the cards will fall however they will fall. I’m so grateful to my professor @galvaobjj for the endless positive encouragement, and to my team for the endless beatings, and to my sponsors for their generous support, and of course to my family for their endless love. Thank you everyone for believing in me and always pushing me. 🙏🏼🙏🏼 . . 🥇🥇🥇
