Never Get Caught Again in a Leg Lock in Z Guard with Tom DeBlass

Everybody knows that Tom Deblass’ favorite position is the half guard and it’s also where most of his attacks start from. The half guard is a position that deBlass has been using since his blue belt days. He has been developing and refining it and adding many layers of attack and of defense.

In the Z Guard or Knee Shield half guard position, the top leg serves as a protective shield and can evolve into to a more active and even an attacking leg.

Speaking of defense, for Tom DeBlass, his knee shield is mainly a defensive posture but when you play half guard since you have one leg in and one leg out, you are in a position to potentially get leglocked.

The leglock risk is real but that doesn’t mean that you can’t avoid it. DeBlass made a video showing a little trick which will avoid you getting leglocked in the Z Guard.

DeBlass stated:

So many of you love the Z guard, but everytime you use it you are getting leg locked immediately. The problem is you are exposing your top foot without any protection! Stop letting your foot dangle freely. Here I show a great way of preventing/slowing down your opppnents leg attacks. The great thing is, it is incredibly simply and actually makes your shield stronger and more offensive.
