Miyao Brothers Set To Represent Brazil in UWW Grappling Worlds

Grappling has great many rulesets. One prominent federation to hold Grappling competition is the United World Wrestling.

Interestingly this is one ruleset famous for allowing knee reaps and for a different point system than IBJJF.

“This year, Kazakhstan has been holding the largest grappling tournaments in the world, such as the Asian and the World Cup. They have been giving much support to the sport. In the United States, the National Grappling has been very controversial, it has been strong for some years with NAGA, Grappling Quest and Arnold Classic. Here in Brazil last year I had some meetings with the Minister of Sports along with Rogério Sampaio and the federal MPs Maria Helena and Laura Carneiro so that we can hold the World Grappling Championship in 2019 in Brazil, “said the expert black belt in an interview with TATAME.

“The structure has been following the pattern of the World Cup of Wrestling, a real show! The rules basically look a lot like our Jiu-Jitsu, and if you pull the guard, you have 30 seconds to shave or pick it up, if it does not, it’s like you’re fleeing from the standing fight, and then you take two points of punishment. ”

“We have been working for a few years to reach this level, so we have great expectations and we hope it will be a great show. . Our ultimate goal is the inclusion of grappling at the Olympic Games in the United States or France. With that, we had the long-awaited opportunity to see our great Jiu-Jitsu athletes fighting in the Olympics. “

In addition to João and Paulo, who compete in the divisions up to 62kg and 66kg, Gi and No-Gi, , Brazil is also representing the black belt Caroline de Lazzer Cardoso, who among women, will take action in the category above 71kg

Interestingly US team won’t be featuring any big names:
