Mikey Musumeci, the 5x IBJJF World Champion and ONE Championship submission grappling world champion, is one of the most beloved athletes in the BJJ community.
His kindness, honesty, and way of thinking make him appreciated by almost everyone. And he showed why that’s the case once again, in a recent Instagram post.
He first reflected on his time training in Singapore:
Living in Singapore, it’s been over a month since I have been back living here in Asia. Around 6 months total back and forth between the US and Asia, and it’s been such an amazing experience.
One thing I find so fascinating is that every training I do here at Evolve MMA typically has 5-7 people from different countries in it!
I think I pretty much know how to say “hi” and “let’s go” in most languages now (sometimes in training I speak 7 languages to people.
Then, Musumeci stated his appreciation for what the Gentle Art does… As it shows that everyone is the same on the mats:
What is incredible is that even though we are all from different countries, we all become the same when we are on the mat training.
Jiu-Jitsu teaches us that regardless of race, religion, or country, we are all the same!
We are all humans with the same love and passion, and jiu jitsu can be used to connect us all.
