Mikey Musumeci Breaks Worlds Record w/ 12 Second Modified Ankle Lock Submission

USA’s Mikey Musumeci made history last weekend at worlds for many reasons. He became the first non-Brazilian to become 3x IBJJF world black belt champion when he defeated the legend Bruno Malfacine in the semi final.

He also defeated Rodnei Junior in the rooster weight final by a lightning fast ankle lock in a mere 12 seconds.

Musumeci now holds the record for fastest submission in the IBJJF Worlds finals history. He used a straight footlock variation where he hooks his outer leg instead of hooking with the inner leg (which is the classic ashi garami position).

Musumeci is known for his highly efficient and unique approach to leglocks which he teaches on his instructional series with BJJ Fanatics: High Percentage IBJJF Legal Footlocks by Mikey Musumeci
