Mega Sprawl & Pass Is The Perfect Solution To Smash Through the Z-Guard

Today countless numbers of jiu jitsu practitioners around the globe are using their knee shield, frame and under hook to shield tons upon tons of opponent pressure, elevate them to sweep them, reverse them and attack or perhaps to set up a Tom DeBlass style attack from bottom half guard. With the resources available now it’s the perfect time to overhaul the half guard you’ve been working or to add it to your arsenal.   Or maybe they’re a student of the Craig Jones’ style Z guard with its dynamic and painful knee shield and hip clamp.  Because of the recent explosion in popularity of the half guard, there must also be an explosion of new ideas of how to defeat it.

David Avellan has a solution for passing, rather smashing the Z Guard: A monster sprawl and immediate pass. Try it. It really works.

Often times when you go to Knee Cut, your opponent will put up the China Wall or Shin Shield to block you.

Other times, you are just fighting against a Z-Guard that can be really frustrating to work against. My solution – the Sprawl Pass.

The goal here is to detach and pin his shield to the ground, letting you score a pass around the back. I have a lot of success with this particular sequence and I’m sure you will too!

Who better to show you how to use his own brand of pressure passing and finesse to stop the Z Guard than half guard master Tom DeBlass?!  And if you thought he was only a No Gi player, you’ve got another thing coming.  In his new 4 volume “High Tech BJJ in the Gi” instructional that just hit the BJJ Fanatics charts, he’s going to give you all of his best Gi techniques from sweeps, to passes, to submissions and everything in between.  And keep in mind, everything he shows in the Gi can easily translate to No Gi, so its like getting two instructionals for the price of one.
