Jiu-Jitsu is limitless. There are always new techniques being developed.
Everybody knows the Kimura, the powerful shoulder lock but how about the LEGkimura?
Felipe Costa came up with a kimura that he applies with his legs, on this video you can see him putting it to action in a tournament for the first time.
Another similar technique is the Kesa Kimura…
In Judo the scarf hold/Kesa Gatame is a popular position to pin your opponent, but for some strange reason, BJJ players see it as a risky position because they feel that you can get their back taken.
They are WRONG. The ones who think that have obviously never been put in a tight kesa gatame by a top Judoka.
What to do to counter the most common escape to Kesa which consists of grabbing your opponent around the waist, putting your hips underneath him and simply bridgin?
The ultimate counter to this is the Kesa Kimura.
Coach Tom from Australia explains the set up and stresses that you have to set it up slowly because your training will not see it coming and might injure his shoulder:
For more beautifully brutal kimura variations and set ups, you will want to take advantage of the knowledge of one of the most sought after MMA and grappling coaches on the planet, Neil Melanson. He has distilled his years of leading MMA champions into The Filthy Kimura Series and it can be yours by heading over to BJJ Fanatics!
Sloth Jiu-Jitsu: you can be slow and unathletic and still kick butt in Jiu-Jitsu.
