Marcelo Garcia’s Way Of Cracking A Tough Closed Guard

Marcelo Garcia’s Way Of Cracking A Tough Closed Guard

Every practitioner learns in a very short while just how much of a dominant position closed guard can be. So it’s no surprise quite a few people accentuate it – even in modern times when people tend to go for open guard type variations. What’s one sure way of opening up a closed guard?

This approach heavily relies on your opponent not having grips – meaning your collar is free.

You pin the wrists of the opponent and jump on both feet.

You don’t want to stay here so he doesn’t grab your lapels – so you straighten up.

Once you straighten up you insert your arm where his feet are crossed and this is fairly hard for him to keep holding on to.

Important detail is controlling the knee.
