Mackenzie Dern Discusses Her Infamous Change of Accent Over the Years

BJJ fans have been making a big deal about the evolution of BJJ world champion Mackenzie Dern’s accent from proper American accent a few years back old to nowadays someone who sounds like English isn’t their first language.

A bit of Mackenzie history. She was born in Phoenix, Arizona, the daughter of Wellington “Megaton” Dias, and her mother is American. She grew up in Arizona and graduated from Ironwood High School in Glendale, Arizona.

Over the past few years, she has been spending a lot of time training and competing all over the world including Brazil.

Ariel Helwani always asks the questions that the fans want to hear. So he asked Mackenzie why her accent has changed over the years:

She answered:

Yeah it’s so flattering (laughs). I haven’t seen this video and I won’t watch it you know but I’ve been asked about it you know. I think after my UFC fights they’ll pay more attention to my fight you know, but they’re paying so much attention to this it’s a compliment you know. They look at that but I want people to understand like this is me and who I am and you know. I think they will pass in a while.

Here is the famous Youtube video which shows the evolution.
