Luke Rockhold Talks How BJJ Changed His Life: “Gave me the Confidence to Seek Out the Next Level “

We often hear stories about how bjj inspires people. Lifestyle change, confidence change and even body change is an everyday occurence once you start bjj. Luke Rockhold recently talked about how jiu jitsu specifically helped him get on his path and just how it changed him.

During a visit to Brazil, Rockhold talked with the reporter Adriano Albuquerque, of Combate.com , about the way in advertising and career mishaps outside the cages, in the series “Everything but MMA”, and one of the valuable excerpts of the talk he talks about how Jiu-Jitsu and the failures in life have made him an even better fighter.

Luke Rockhold: “I Turned Down My Black Belt

After going through several temporary jobs as a painter and installer of solar panels, the Rockhold discovered that the sport of fighting was among his greatest talents. With that, he invested in himself and came to Brazil to fight for the World Jiu-Jitsu, while he was still a blue belt.

“When I started to discover how good I was in Jiu-Jitsu, when I came to Brazil for the Worlds,” said Rockhold. “I got a lot of inspiration coming here, I learned a lot. I did not win the first time in 2006, but I stayed for two months and I learned a lot. I returned home and ended up winning the World Championship in the blue belt the following year. This boosted me in the fight, gave me the confidence to seek the next level because I knew how important Jiu-Jitsu was in the fight and how good I was in Jiu-Jitsu.

I competed against the best black belts in the world when I was on the blue belt. I knew I could compete with them because I trained with them at the gym, and that gave me the confidence to get into the fight. All this came from Jiu-Jitsu and came to Brazil. It motivated me. “
