Learn The RUSSIAN TIE And Frustrate Your Training Partners in Standup

Did you know that wrestling can actually be quite simple? It sure can, if you dedicate yourself to learning and perfecting a set number of techniques, until you can hit them automatically.
One of these techniques should definitely be the Russian Tie. It’s going to come in handy whenever you want to progress to a takedown… Or even set up a choke immediately!

David Porter explains.

HOW TO SET UP THE RUSSIAN TIE?

Whenever you find yourself tied up with your training partner or opponent in a standing position, you can hit the Russian Tie – explains instructor Porter. But you’ll first need to clear the training partner’s hand from the back of your head if you want to set it up.
To do that, you need to do two things almost simultaneously. First, you’ll move your shoulder in almost a punching motion towards the partner’s hand in order to clear it. And second – before you start clearing the hand, you’ll grab it with your own hand as high on the wrist as possible. Then, as your shoulder clears it, you’ll pull the training partner’s arm towards your rib cage; keeping it extended.

From there, you can rest your bodyweight on top of the opponent’s shoulder in order to wear them out, grabbing their arm from underneath. Or you can even go for a standing Darce Choke setup!
Here’s how to do that. David Porter demonstrates on the video below:
