The Lasso Guard can be an incredibly difficult position to get out from in BJJ… Passing the guard of a much larger opponent can sometimes be a difficult task. However, if it’s done right, you will be in great shape to win the match. One thing that we have talked about in past articles over and over is the fact that we need to use mobility to our advantage.
Trying to pass the guard of our opponent while our mobility is limited will be extremely difficult, so being able to quickly change direction and weight distribution is super important.
Getting stuck in Lasso Guard is one of the worst positions you can get in BJJ. But there are ways out of it…
Such as the following technique from Andrew Wiltse!
Wiltse demonstrates important principles and details on smashing the Lasso Guard, on the video below:
Destroy open guards with Andrew Wiltse’s signature buzzsaw passing system that anyone can use to start smashing and slicing through bottom players.
- Shut down the reverse De La Riva and traditional De La Riva as Andrew shows you grip fighting and positioning concepts to stay safe and control the fight while you set up passes.
- Use knee cuts, toreando, x-pass, leg weaves, and more for a comprehensive passing system that works together in the system Andrew shows.
Sloth Jiu-Jitsu: you can be slow and unathletic and still kick butt in Jiu-Jitsu.
