Keenan Cornelius: Takes Me 3 Weeks To Get Comfortable With My Nogi Game

Keenan Cornelius is widely known as the man who introduced a lot of innovation into bjj – perhaps most notably the worm guard.

Anyone who has been to a bjj class pretty much knows that to play Keenan’s style you have to really love the gi. Not only is it advanced but it’s also so grip dependant it’s quite a feat to disentangle yourself once his gi grips set in. This was recently noticed by a bjj redditor:

Keenan’s gi game is so gi grip dependent from r/bjj

And promptly Keenan clarified with some very interesting info:

thanks. It can be tough having two extremely different styles but it just works for me. but its definitely hard to transition back and forth. i can always come back to the gi, but going to no gi takes me about three weeks to get comfortable again

If you like smash guard passes, here is 5x BJJ world champion Bernardo Faria‘s new series, No Gi Pressure Passing. Building on the incredible success of his Pressure Passing instructionals in the Gi, this system will bring that same pressure to your No Gi game! Get it here!
