Kade Ruotolo, a prominent figure in the grappling world and a standout competitor at the Craig Jones Invitational (CJI), recently opened up to JitsMagazine about how he’s been using his impressive million-dollar prize money from the prestigious event. For Ruotolo, the financial windfall goes beyond just a life-changing amount—it represents a chance to invest in his long-term vision and secure his slice of paradise.
When asked how he planned to spend his winnings, Ruotolo shared a thoughtful approach focused on building a future beyond competition mats. “The guarantee is just gonna be to make some smarter investments as far as real estate and property in Costa Rica,” Ruotolo revealed. “We’ve got our gym, our house, it’s our paradise out there. We kinda just wanna start expanding further into the land around the area.” With the sun-soaked beaches and lush landscapes of Costa Rica as the backdrop, Ruotolo’s plans involve creating a strong foothold for his gym and lifestyle while expanding their dream retreat.
Despite the substantial prize money, Ruotolo’s personal spending habits remained refreshingly humble. When asked if he treated himself to anything special, he responded with a grin, “As far as what I’ve bought personally for me, I’ve only gotten one thing since then. Actually, it was technically before, but it was a ‘91 4Runner. It has like 80,000 miles on it, manual transmission, stick-shift, four-wheel drive. It only cost me ten grand! I’m not gonna go buy a Lambo or whatever, I just keep it mellow.” It’s a perfect snapshot of Ruotolo’s grounded personality—eschewing flashy purchases for practical, meaningful ones.

Beyond investments and vehicles, Ruotolo’s vision for Costa Rica goes hand-in-hand with his passion for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He outlined an enticing plan to create a unique training environment. “We’re gonna start off by just doing Jiu-Jitsu surf camps,” he explained. “A week at a time, everyone can come hang out and enjoy the gym. It’s paradise in Costa Rica; just train, surf, drink smoothies, just live the life! Eventually down the line when we’re living down there I’m sure we’ll be doing everyday classes.”
For Ruotolo, the CJI prize money is more than just a milestone; it’s a catalyst for building a lifestyle centered around passion, health, and community. His thoughtful investments and grounded attitude demonstrate a mature approach to success—one where family, Jiu-Jitsu, and paradise come together to create something truly special.
