Judo in Angola: When Passion For Sport Overcomes Lack Of Resources

 

 

When we talk about martial arts there’s always the question of environment and how to make it as safe and as efficient as possible.  But what happens when there’s no conditions but the passion for the sport is ever present?

This is just what’s going on in Angola.

No cushy mats, no fuss but still nothing stops them!

Angola has about 29 million people but in spite of it, like most former colonies it’s under developed.

Not that they let the lack of sports infrastructure bother them!

Angola is the home of Antonia Moreira. She competed in the +70 kg division at the 2004 Olympics but in spite of being eliminated in the round of 16 she’s won countless medals.

Ultimately she finished in 9th place in 2016 Rio Olympic games. Still the conditions in which young athletes train don’t hinder their spirit. Check it out:
