Jose Aldo has been adamant – he wants out of the UFC. He might even retire from MMA.
Not even a McGregor match could change his mind.
Indeed it’s been a whirlwind year for Aldo who had the featherweight belt as far back as November 2010. But that whole era was put to rest when he famously lost to Conor McGregor in 12 seconds.
But that wasn’t the end of it for Aldo, he got back inside the Octagon and rematched Frankie Edgar at the famously struggling UFC 200 edition. Now, 3 months after the fact there’s no word on a McGregor rematch and in spite of threatening to strip him of the belt no such notion has been put into action.
Jose Aldo talked to Brazil’s SporTV yesterday and said there’s nothing that would disuade him from getting out of UFC and the sport. He was immidietly asked if a title shot would change his mind to which he replied:
“No. Not even that because that would be the right thing to happen. This fight is the fight that should happen next in the featherweight division. I conquered that ever since I entered the UFC. I saw other champions losing and fighting right away for the belt. That was the right thing.
I didn’t fight for the belt. They made me fight for the interim title, I went there and won, and still have no definition whatsoever. To me, not even a fight with McGregor… It’s not about him being fighting now or not. I don’t care where he’s going. I want to follow my path. Today, the right is me getting released from the contract.”
