Jose Aldo to rematch Max Holloway After Frankie Edgar Withdraws

Jose Aldo got an unexpected opportunity to get his belt back!

Aldo previously lost the featherweight belt to Max Holloway earlier this year. However since Frankie Edgar had to withdraw out of UFC 218 headliner due to injury Aldo will be stepping back into the octagon.

Brazilian outlet Combate first reported the news, which ESPN.com’s Brett Okamoto confirmed. Sources close to the fighters told MMAjunkie that Edgar suffered a fractured orbital bone.

Hollowey delivered with a third-round TKO, marking Aldo’s first loss in the weight class outside his memorable 13-second defeat against Conor McGregor.

Holloway wrote about the victory:

Losing is part of this fight game. Saturday night takes nothing away from his legacy. This is a guy who would show up to his gym sometimes without eating in the last day because he was so damn poor. This is a guy who built the 45 division and became king. This is a guy who found motivation to keep earning what he already had. He defended his throne. For a decade. For honor. For his team. For his countrymen. This is a guy who didn’t start at pole position in this world and look at what he achieved. Brazil needs to celebrate that man. Acai with powered milk and cashews for everyone. He’s a GOAT, and his story will always be an inspiration to me and people of Hawaii. Obrigado, Ze @josealdojunioroficial Obrigado.

Aldo will be prepared as he was in camp for a Dec 16. match with Ricardo Lamas.
