Jose Aldo: I’m Always Berimboloing!

Jose Aldo has been enjoying the fruits of his successful MMA career for a while now. The champion regained his (interim) belt at UFC 200 and now he’s ready to discuss some serious bjj topics.

Here’s the advice he had for beginners, learning basics vs berimbolo and some talk about his idols.

His first words of advice addressed consistency, namely Aldo endorses daily bjj practices:

“Firstly, I advise BJJ novices to train every day. To me BJJ is something addictive, which I love doing since I first started training. I’ve never stopped. Having a fight scheduled or not I always roll with my friends – IT was here that I learned how to be who I am today. So if possible train every day. But if you cannot try to put on the gi twice or once a week – you will feel this pleasure that will hook you. “

Aldo believes a training should be approached in a playful manner and doesn’t shy away from modern antics such as berimbolo:

“I’m always berimboloing, doing a seatbelt and taking all their backs. Now here at the gym I’m the back king. I even have a custom backpack saying that. “

However Aldo does stress the importance of basics:

“I prefer basic BJJ because I believe that in order for you to learn modern BJJ it’s necessary to learn basic BJJ. It’s no good for you to play a lapel game, a berimbolo or whatever grip if you haven’t mastered basic BJJ. “
