Jose Aldo Claims He Has a Friendly Relationship With Conor McGregor

With the news that McGregor Diaz 2 shattered all the pay per view records Jose Aldo was motivated to reveal his true attitudes toward the Notorious Conor McGregor on the Tv Show “Revista Combate”.

The interim featherweight champion said of their relationship:

It’s a friendly relationship. I don’t have a problem with him trying to promote himself. If we take a look at it money-wise, it was pretty good. I think there should be more fighters like him at featherweight. I’m not his friend, though. He can go his way and I can go mine.”

Current estimates for the UFC 202 show that there was around 1.65 million buys on pay per view shattering previous record set by the same fighter at around 1.6 – interestingly enough both rank ahead of UFC 100 bout between Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir while rating seldom mention the havoc that was UFC 200.

The UFC famously keeps their cards close to their vest and doesn’t reveal the exact numbers but the source close to them revealed that the DirecTv numbers were highest in UFC history.  The 1.65 figure counts only those streaming leaving the traditional television numbers aside. McGregor and Diaz received two of the 3 largest purses ever – with Diaz scoring 2 and McGregor 3 million without the percentage of the pay per view! And all that of course in addition to the 50 000$ best fight bonus.

The 12 second fight between Aldo and McGregor  scored McGregor a reported half of million dollars. while Aldo earned 400 000$. Of course the match was long time coming and came as a culmination of a huge pr war waged on by McGregor.

That fight was originally to take place at 11th July 2015 at UFC 189 but in days leading to the fight Aldo pulled out due to a rib injury and McGregor faced Chad Mendes in perhaps one of his tightest fights to date at that weight:

Later McGregor revealed that during the fight camp for this fight he tore his ACL. About 6 months later, McGregor defeated Aldo in a first round knockout and became the Featherweight champion. This was the fastest finish in any UFC title fight.

However it’s mighty big of Aldo to claim being friendly considering all the insults the Irishman hurled his way:
