Jon Jones Refusing To Grapple Cormier, Says Strikes Are Integral In Their Saga

Jon Jones recently reached a settlement with the USADA. The legend of the UFC will be suspended for a year for his UFC 200 doping suspension.

However he isn’t dead set on facing Cormier in just any type of fight.

Jones will be trying his hand at grappling this weekend at Chael Sonnen’s Submission Underground 2 against Dan Henderson. But that ruleset isn’t good enough to face anyone.

As he told FOX Sports:

“I just want to kick his ass with my hands and feet and elbows and knees.”

Jones continued

“That would be a hell of a match, but no, I wouldn’t want to play with Cormier at all. Me and Cormier’s storyline is so big and important to me, I wouldn’t want to give him any false sense of security or anything.”

Of course Cormier has the world of experience grappling – the UFC star is a World Champion bronze medalist in wrestling in 2007 and has gone to the Summer Olympics!

Jon Jones will be grappling Dan Henderson on the Submission Underground 2 over the weekend, streaming via Flograppling!.

As a reminder, Jones has another 7 months to wait before he’ll be able to strike his way through the 205 lbs champion Daniel Cormier.
