Joining A New BJJ Academy? Make Sure To Follow These 2 Rules

So you’ve been training for a while in your “home academy”… But, for one reason or another, you’ve decided to change things up a bit – and start training in another academy instead. What’s more, the day for when you’re going to have your first training session is approaching fast, and you couldn’t be more excited about it!
However, you’re also probably kind of nervous about how the coach(es) and your new training partners will accept you. Have no worries: just follow through the following two rules.

2 RULES TO FOLLOW WHEN JOINING A NEW BJJ ACADEMY

Prior to coming to your first class in the new academy, you need to contact the coaches there. Beside giving the basic introduction about yourself, it’s vital that you tell them about your experience as well… So that no one thinks that you’ve been fooling them once you hit that Berimbolo.

But secondly, and perhaps much more importantly, it’s necessary that you play by their rules. What this means is that you need to fall in line with the rules that are applied in the new academy. For instance, if the first academy requires you to bow when entering and leaving the mat, do so – it doesn’t matter if you haven’t done this in your previous school. New house, new rules.
And also, make sure that you train with respect. That you aren’t trying to take anyone’s head off on your very first training session… So that your new training partners can see and begin to understand that you’re there to become the best training partner you can be as well.

Nick “Chewy” Albin explains more on these rules on the video below:
