John Danaher Is Determined to Fix 3 Specific Problems in Jiu-Jitsu

One of the most captivating figures in the eye of the bjj public, John Danaher, did a great interview with Joe Rogan.

During this amazing video, he talks about what he wants to change in Jiu-Jitsu in order for it to be more efficient in the sport and also in MMA.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is growing at an amazing rate worldwide. More people are training in all corners of the world. BJJ is evolving.

The direction that sport BJJ is going is worrying many. Nowadays modern Ju-Jitsu is guard centric and most competitors don’t even bother with takedowns. They just pull guard and aim to sweep from the guard or worse work for advantages. BJJ has become more of a game than a combat system.

In the video, John Danaher describes what he believes will be the next big evolution in BJJ. Danaher has already fixed the first problem in Jiu-Jitsu: Leglocks.

His next mission is to fix the 2 remaining problems: Takedowns and the ability to maintain top positions when it is attained.

In the past, Danaher has said that the reason he joined social media, and changes jiu-jitsu needs:

“The reason is practical. I’m almost 50 years old and jiu-jitsu is my absolute passion. but I do believe that changes are necessary in the sport of jiu-jitsu if it’s to remain relevant as a fighting art. I don’t just want to teach jiu-jitsu I want to change it and I do believe that certain changes can be made, not to the sport overall I still the traditional sport of jiu-jitsu but I do believe there should be alternative methods.That People who are interested in those alternatives can make use of. Especially those interested in transitioning to the sport of mixed martial arts. I wanted to communicate to more than just my 3 or 4 students to try to create a movement of people. “
