Only a true martial artist keeps their mind strong through the best and worst of times. This is something that is constantly tested in bjj.
Recently Joe Rogan hosted Lex Fridman. Fridman has a very impressive bio with a scientific background and he describes himself as a bjj/judo guy himself.
“I spend almost all my time doing research in computer science, and whatever free time is left I spend training in judo and brazilian jiu jitsu. It’s a grappling martial art that’s often referred to as the game of human chess. It challenges me physically and mentally.”
“Jiu Jitsu, Judo and wrestling those are absolute martial arts. They’re the hardest… You have the control of the body. There’s no lucky triangle chokes. My experience with Jiu Jitsu was very humbling… is the truest martial art. ”
