Russian grappler Maria Varshavskaia moved to Istanbul, Turkey afew years ago and started training with Corvos MMA/BJJ Team.
She was promoted last night by her instructors Ugur Kursadagansoy and Burak Deger Bicer to the rank of black belt in BJJ in a surprise heartwarming promotion.
Maria first thought that she was just receiving an extra stripe on her brown belt but then Burak crept in from behind and dropped the black belt on her shoulders.
This makes Maria Vashavskaia the second female BJJ black belt from Russia.
She stated:
“🖤BLACK BELT!
I can’t believe.
I’m still shocked.
Guys, I’ll say everything a little bit later.
Thank you all!”
