Rene Eduardo Lopez has placed 3rd at the just finished NoGi Worlds 2016 but all the media attention is on the DQ he got in the semi finals against Joao Miyao.

The video shows him shrugging off the incident but just shortly after he posted the following on instagram blaming the lotion of choice for the DQ:
This morning I put hand lotion on as I do every morning, but this morning was not “any” morning it was the day of the no gi worlds. In the handbook it clearly states that no creams, gels or any substance on the skin is allowed. I did make the mistake, so I would like to apologize to all of my fellow competitors and training partners.
Lopez has been training since September of 2007 and lists employment as Coach at Dunham Jiu-Jitsu.
