Guy at Seminar Challenges Retired Jiu-Jitsu Champion Rigan Machado

This happened at a recent seminar that Rigan was conducting. Rigan Machado is way past his prime and overweight but he is still a wrecking machine and one of the best BJJ players of all time. It was all in good fun but it’s not hard to guess what happened next.

Rigan Machado  is an 8th degree red and black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, earning his rank under Carlos Gracie Jr. He is a former Pan American Champion (1996, 1997 weight and absolute) and a veteran medalist of the ADCC. Machado holds a victory over Ron Tripp, the only person to have defeated Rickson Gracie in competition.  Rigan Machado currently teaches out of his Beverly Hills CaliforniaAcademy and is instructor to notable students Ashton Kutcher, Vin Diesel and Charlie Hunnam from Television Show Son’s of Anarchy.

Rigan is one of five brothers of the Machado family. He began training at the age of 5 with his cousins, “The Gracie Family”.

He is widely regarded as one of the top competitors in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu history. He also competed and won many tournaments in judo, sambo, and wrestling.

Old person jiu jitsu is not just all about pressure passing from the knees and half guard.  There are so many more fundamentals and concepts we can take from their games no matter what level and age we are.

Ten time world champion and MMA veteran Fabiano Scherner has put together all the secrets to “Mastering Brazilian Jiu Jitsu After 40” in this instructional that you will want to check out.
