The outstanding bjj podcast – Grappling central Podcast had the opportunity to interview AJ Agazarm recently.
Agazarm is a former division 1 wrestler but much of his fame in the bjj community came from his fast game, scrambles and going for takedowns. Agazarm is also one of the biggest fans of acai berry so he offered some advice on how to get the real thing in the US!
On his list of accomplishments are World Nogi champion, Pan American Nogi Champion, European Nogi Champion (weight and absolute) and others.
The Florida boy talked a bit about his upbringing and background. It might surprise you to learn Agazarm was initially into soccer!
In addition to that he initially thought wrestling was gay?! However things changed quickly and Aj was hooked!

Another unique story is how Agazarm got into bjj. And you should hear him tell it right around the 25 minute mark! Agazarm also had the unique opportunity to be mentored by Carlos Gracie Jr. but he also values his education – he has a degree in finance from Ohio state which he got following declining Carlos Gracie Junior’s offer to move to Brazil and live with his family.
AJ Agazarm doesn’t shy away from talking about some his most heated matches and the importance of applying yourself, having intensity, work ethic and mental toughness.
